72 Charger SE

Does anyone have any experience with rewiring the rally dash for the 71-74? About 7 years ago when I was home on leave it had a nice little electrical fire and she has sat in my parents garage ever since. I'm finally out of the army and I want to put it back on the road. Sadly, spending $400 on a dash harness from year one is not in the budget so I'm going to have to DIY. I have the wiring diagram and it seems pretty straight forward but while I'm doing this I'd like to get suggestions on improvements to the wiring to make it last another 30 years without getting crispy.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
