Hello, it has been a while. But finally, she is nearing completion. Not completely done mind you, but off the rack and in primer! Should hopefully be just a month or two left...
So, it got hit pretty hard, and some parts could not be salvaged, like the rocker panel. I managed to find another '70 Coronet in a junkyard (they had exactly 1) which provided the right side doors (oddly the doner car had the side bode trim much higher up than mine?) , as well as the rocker panel, rear quarter, and B-pillar. (He ended up not needing the doner's B-pillar, but I didn't know that at the time.) Apparently there was a surprising amount of bondo in the old rear quarter. (Now you might see some in the new pics, but it's a very thin layer--just filling in shallow pitting and the like, and not dent-hiding.)
Progress has been very slow as it was a 1 man shop with a lot of other customers who had to take precedent, but ah well. He did say he quite liked working on it, as it has metal thick enough to do real work with unlike newer cars.
Funnily enough, the engine still runs well despite 5 year old gas, he had no problems driving from the rack to the paint booth. (Though I may or may not have filled it with 100LL Avgas [since I work at an airport] the last time I filled it before the wreck, I can't really remember. Lots of lead and no ethanol in that stuff!)
Anyway, just showing you all that I still have the Coronet and she's going to be back on the roar soon! Will post more updates as they happen.
