Original owners from when my parents purchased in 1968. Dad has passed away but my mom is still here and is ecstatic that I am restoring the first and only new car they purchased. Was our family car and I still remember my mom driving me to elementary school in the Charger. Was my first car when I turned 16 until I went in the Navy a couple years later. It's an original 440 automatic with AC. The AC has been removed when it seized up when I was driving it when I was 16 or 17. Has not been put back on but i still have all the hardware. I will leave it off. It is not the original transmission as my dad turned it in for a core for a different transmission. It has an 1973 A727 in place of the original. Currently I am completely restoring the Charger with minor upgrades to the suspension and engine. Keeping everything stock otherwise. The upgrades to the suspension is a complete Firm Feel front end and with a rear anti-sway bar in back. The steering box was also upgraded to the Firm Feel quick ratio version. It drives and handles very good with the suspension updates. The engine is currently being rebuilt with the hopes to have about 450 HP. Keeping the cast iron heads and exhaust manifolds. Will have an Edelbrock 440 Performer intake.

It is rust free. My dad had the body and paint done while I was in the Navy sometime in '91-'92. It has been garaged since then. Before then it always stayed outside. Even sat on the side lawn in the grass for about 4 years before I starting driving it when I turned 16. I am just happy I didn't do anything to it like any 16 year old wanted to do with the car. Turn it into a hotrod. I want everyone who sees it to enjoy as much as I enjoy driving and taking care of it.

Looking forward to have the engine and tranny back in it for next summer. There is no hurry. If it happens it happens if not then I will wait. Want to make sure everything is done right with no rush.

Gorgeous car. I have it's twin in green. Also pulled the 440, kept the same exhaust manifold and played around with different intakes on the dyno. Was surprised the the performance gain with the Performer set up. It gave a clean 20 HP bump to all the others I tried. I went that route on final set up but still struggling with the air filter. The Performer sits so high, the original dual snorkel air cleaner rubbed the hood. I switched to an unsilenced air filter but the top almost sits on the carb butterflies (suffocating the engine). I've been playing with various options trying to lower the air filter while installing a larger filter to get some clearance, but mixed results. If you figure out an elegant way to keep a stock look with the Performer intake... post a pic!

I haven't had hood clearance issues with the 440 Performer intake and I have an 1/2" spacer to boot installed without issues. I attempted a 1" spacer and there was definitely a hood clearance issue not to mention the linkage was way out of wack. I can imagine using an RPM Performer intake there would be clearance issues with the stock air cleaner since it does sit so much higher than the Performer especially with the 1/2" spacer not to mention the linkage alignment.

When I get the engine back and assembled I will definitely take some pics to post.

Nice car. It looks like the same color as my LL1 68 Runner. Lucky guy your family kept it.
