The day he trailered the car down and my Camaro failed to start
Pictures I was sent when I asked what the prev owner had to trade
I've owned my RR since 2010 as a junior in high school. At 16, without a permit, I bought a 1992 Firebird v6 t-tops with my life savings. Needed tires and paint so I found a crashed 1992 Camaro RS 305c.i parts car with good tires ($400). Drove the parts car home...loved the power. Decided to keep the Camaro and sell the firebird which wasn't even titled in my name yet. Spent the summer of 2009 restoring the Camaro in a horse barn (disassembled and gone thru completely -- new interior, undercoating, engine dress ups, exhaust, and all that fun stuff). Keep in mind I still don't have my license at this point and I've owned 2 cars now. After a cheap Maaco paint job I threw the Camaro on CL to see if I could make my money back and buy something even faster. A guy emailed one day 'interested in trades?'. Not really I responded but what do you have to offer. He sent me a picture of a red 72' RR that had been hit by an F250. Needed a hood, front cowl, driver fender. Keeping in my excitement I told him I might be interested. Next day he trailered the car to my house....BUT my Camaro wouldn't start randomly and he called off the trade. 2 days goes by and I figure out it was a measly coolant temp sensor that failed causing the TBI engine not to turn. Fixed it, called him back and drove my Camaro 1hr north to meet him in a nor'easter snow storm. He had the RR stored in a airport hanger near Orange, MA. At that point we traded titles and went our separate ways...left with a big ****-eating grin on my face. Who trades a 72 RR for a 92 Camaro RS not even a Z28?! The next day I began putting work in: straightening the fender with a truck jack and hammer as well as a million other tasks. Got it looking descent and took it to New England Classic Restorations in MA for a 75% paint job. Paint alone was $285 a qt so 75% was all I could afford. Shortly after I was able to register the car and by then I had my license. Having an RR in high school was surreal and now thats what I'm know for to this day. In the years following I've put thousands of dollars of work into her, including new paint in 2015 and probably 10 grand in gas...and she's going strong. Hope you liked my story...Meep meep, Tyler
