United States: A different window for optimal viewing

In the United States, the comet will also be visible, but slightly different viewing conditions apply. From September 27 to September 30, the comet will be best observed in the southeastern sky, about an hour before dawn. Similar to Europe, it is important to find a location free from light pollution to maximize visibility. National parks and rural areas will offer some of the best viewing opportunities.

For Americans who miss the morning window, the comet will be visible again in mid-October. On October 13, it will be at its closest to Earth, around 71 million kilometers away, and will be observable after sunset, looking west. This second appearance promises a spectacular display, especially if you can find a location with a wide, clear horizon.

Cool.

Thanks.

My complements on your complete and compelling commentary concerning the coming of the comet.

Once upon a time the area where I live was rural. I remember ALL the roads around here were 2 lanes and lots of them was dirt.

Our view has gone now from the southern hemisphere....and I saw nothing.

I tried several times but also I saw nuuuuuuuuuthinG.

We had cloud cover spoiling things as well as a really bright moon after that......hard to see stars with all that going on.

On a related note-

This and the temporary second moon we had the past 30 or so days has half-assed re-sparked my interest in casual astronomy.

Saturday I picked op a thrift store 60mm refractor telescope.
30 bucks.
It needs cleaned up and some fasteners replaced but all the important parts are there and the equatorial mount mechanism works.
They are $140 new on amazon.

I still have my old scope, which I think may be a 70 or 80mm, but the mount mechanism locked up and broke. If it is slightly larger, I hope it will fit on the new mount.

I used tat scope to see the plumes from the Schumacher-Levy 9 asteroid impacting Jupiter.

That was a pretty good show.
