Look, I'm as dazzled by truly rare cars as much as anyone else. Cars like the one Mike just referred to (1968 Coronet R/T convertible hemi 4 speed) - only 1 built? Wow!
I dig it. Truly rare and therefore valuable. Won't get to see one very often if at all ever.
That's as far as it goes for me, though. I'm not rich, not a collector, won't ever be.
The money in the hobby is a hinderance to folks like me, honestly.
I was into these a loooong time before they got expensive, just like many (most?) of you.
Not into them for that, never was.
Instead, what's truly interesting to me, what holds my attention for more than a few seconds of
a talking point in a conversation, is that every one of these critters has a story behind it.
Just like humans in that regard, every one of these beauties, even the mass-produced ones,
has a very unique past and has tales to tell, if only we always knew what they were.
Leno has often said when he decides to buy a particular car, it's oftentimes because it has a story.
I can totally understand that - he can buy literally any car on earth if he chooses to (he's
gotten most of the ones he specifically wanted by make/model/year already), but instead when folks
approach him about buying theirs, he's after ones with unique stories.
As a result, he owns some that he didn't even particularly covet model-wise - he bought the story that
came with it.
