Hello Everyone, Thanks in advance for taking a look at this post. I have a 62 Plymouth Belvedere…speedometer is erratic…bouncing around…last drive even stopped working all together for a short time but then woke up before I got home. Speedo needle bounces around but at least it was approximately correct in range of speed. Now it’s indicating much lower speed than actual and like I said actually stopped working for a short time altogether on my way home the other night. Is this possibly a bad speedo gear or just a cable lubrication issue? If I try to lubricate it…I’m thinking it has to pulled out and done from the bottom end correct? What should I use to lubricate? Any tips are much appreciated. Thank you, Bob

I'm not sure how much transmission lube will drain when you remove the cable end, but have a cap, or plug handy. I would disconnect at the top end also, and clean, then lube the cable. Hang it, and spray some cleaner(brake) first through it, dry it, and lube with a quality cable product. Put a drill on it, and rotate it several times. Leave it hang to drain the excess. If it's binding, especially when bending for routing, replace it. 62 years is quite the service life...
