I have been looking high and low for repair metal for the cowl outer corner repair chunks..can find left for 63-65 and nothing on the right...as others here have gone before me on this and thus experienced, what was the avenue of repair? I am getting a sneaky feeling that fabrication is the only answer at the moment. Appreciate any insight on this from those who have been there already. Lady at Sherman had no inkling of an idea when phoned...says they only sell B-body stuff....

thanks ...

Have ya tried Kramers or Joe Suchy, they specialize in the 62-65 b body's.

I got both right and left from Sherman for my 65 (I think your car is the same)--and tell her your car IS a B-body!

I made a tracing of a 65 Dodge cowl corner and of the front fender rear dogleg from my friends car..they are not the same as the 62....that was why I was hoping to get with a forum member here that actually has faced this challenge already. In other words are the differences subtle enough that the later can be worked to fit easier than try to fabricate from scratch with poor selector of metal working tools? I did tell her the lady at Sherman the car was a Dodge B-body..and "silence on the line"

Kramer has the same listings as Sherman it appears...as for Joe Suchy..am running that rabbit home now...thanks

There are some threads here about cowl repairs

hi 62 and 63 are the same Kramer has new and used panels. bob

Just called Kramer..they have no new cowl parts for the 62/63 nor lower rear doglegs for the front fenders this year..they suggested contacting a couple out west wrecking facilities to source these parts...the non availability saga continues

As a side note here I have done a search..couple folk doing these cowl jobs but sourcing their stuff and knowing the actual year body they are working is not always given also. I found info on the WWW and that person also did not detail much and his page is so old that contact with him was fruitless...basically what I am saying is I do lots of searching long before I post an inquiry to the forum...you folks are busy on your own projects and I need not just throw random questions out willy nilly....I am still hoping to find some folks with 62's on here that have been there alreadyt...these bodies it is turning out are a bit harder to come by panels...

again thanks...

I hate to suggest these guys since they are extremely proud of their parts but you might want to give http://www.dvap.com a look ... I looked and they have several 63's but no 62's. Good luck!

I called Sherman yet again and this time spoke to the manager himself and explained the issue that folks here have said that 62/63 interchange but they list 63 - 65 as interchange and applicable. I did a trace of a 65 cowl and it is not close to the 62 in a number of key areas to even consider altering the piece to fit. The manager said he would send me dimension and true to his word I had them in just a matter of minutes. Unfortunately a length by width is not enough to make a judgment call. The distance between the hood and the windshield was not given nor was the distance of the fender to wiper mount hole...these are critically different on the 62 compared to a 65...nor was there reference to the height of the cowl panel corner. I notice the majority of folks here are building 64 and 65's..a few 63's and 62's are not heavily represented. I want to thank each of you for you efforts but it seems these panels are not available for the 62. The supplier to Sherman appears to be also the supplier to Kramer. I have no idea who is making the part in order to get to the "horse's mouth" so to speak.

I did my 62 cowl 3 years ago .I could not find any metal to repair mine. I had to fab each piece of metal and weld in . It looks purty much factory. T sad part was it took nearly all winter to do it. Take your time and fab the parts you need. Deereman

Thanks for coming in there with that information Deereman...you confirmed my every suspicion...

Thanks to all and the responses..I have all but thrown in the towel for finding replacement chunks for the 62 cowl corners and have resigned myself to the eventual task of hand forming these as best I can. As of now I am treating the body to a bit of acid to neutralize the rust and it is cleaning up ever so nicely. (phosphoric acid) Yesterday my friend offered his 65 Coronet 500 to me for a fair price and am in a dilemma as to grabbing it also. Can you ever get too many cars? The car resides in the barn and the daily monsoons we have been experiencing has slowed down much of my intended work on the car. The barn is for storage and seldom do I do any sort of work there whatsoever.
