I'm doing a restoration on a 1963 MW Savoy, scheduled build date 10th of December (actually shipped allready on the 6th) 1962. At some point the inner fenders had been cut off, so a pair from a donor car needs to be used. Donor fenders have some extra holes, some added by previous owners some clearly from the factory. If someone could tell me what the driver side fender holes K, L and M are used for, I would be very thankfull.

Also I have a theory that they (K, L, M) appeared somewhere between February-April 1963, which would mean that I should weld them shut to be "correct" for my December 1962 build car. So if you 1963 owners could tell if you have those holes or not, accompanied with the scheduled build date (found on the bottom row of the fender tag, the first 4 numbers).

I might be wrong thinking that the holes are related to the build date in any way. But there was certain changes in March 1963 which in my mind might point into this direction.... thanks for the help :sSig_thanks:

Sounds like a great project! If it helps, my 64 dodge 330 does have those holes and the car is nearly all original and unaltered... it's ship date was late for the model year 7/16/1964.

I'll do a little research but I bet it's for a factory option like windshield washer pump motor, AC component etc.

Not 100 percent on the 63

the holes that you want to know about are for the washer pump and "H" "I" hold the washer bag. That is the way it is on a 64...

If it a real Max Wedge car I doubt it would have window washers, the driver side manifold will destroy the washer bag real quick.

^^ Right, but as with my car it does have the factory holes but the car was not optioned with the washer.

For a correct resto like Anselmi is doing, I'd check to see if the washer was an available option at his car's build date. If it was, chances are the holes were there, if not they may have been left off. I have also seen early B's with dimple/punch marks at unused hole locations. Could be that the assembly line drilled them as needed for the particular car's options.

Also, I bet maybe a max wedge polara / fury is out there with the washer option. But not likely that a low-line Savoy had it.

I found that mine has the washer but its foot operated and mounted on the inside of the car just above the dimmer switch.

Ditto.

And they pull from an IV drip bag and stand mounted on the top of the inner fender next to the fender tag.

Yep...I looked at mine today and there are 3 dimples in the inner fender where the pump would have been mounted had I not have had the foot pump.
