Hey guys! I joined here a LONG while ago, but have been absent for ages because, well, I didn't have much to input or fiddle around with since I didn't actually have anything besides a quest to find one of these cars.
That changed yesterday, when, after a year of tracking down the original owner, i drove home the 1964 Dodge 440 that i'd found exactly a year before, on my birthday, stuffed in the back corner of a parking garage that I would've never had seen had I not gotten lost trying to get my way out of the damn deck.
She'd been sitting for three years, and surprisingly fired right up (after the battery was charged). A bit of a fuel flush, new filter, and a good lookover, and she was able to be driven (the very short distance) home. 50k original miles, original paint, original EVERYTHING besides the regular maintenance stuff.
I have mechanic who specializes in restorations looking over her now for any major issues (no space to work here at the house), but for right now he thinks it should be fairly minor, since she's in surprisingly good shape. Little bit of rust here and there, but nothing outrageous, and mechanically just in need of a solid tune up and some safety upgrades. Of course, we'll see what happens when he actually gets in there to do anything.
Anyhoo, i look forward to trying to pick folks' brains when i actually get to climb in and start fiddling with things. Nice to meet you all again, hehe.
(The Purple 440 is what started this quest 16 years ago - My Dad's beloved car that he sold before heading to Vietnam, and died before being able to get her back).
