I am in the process of changing one of the bulbs out in the light on the side of the console of my '64 Polara 500. The bulb is not much smaller than the surround and I'm having an issue getting it installed. I can get it pushed in, but not turned. I'm afraid to push to hard, having thoughts of broken bulb glass being shoved into my thumb. The socket is clean. Does anyone have a trick for installing these old style bulbs?

I used spray on silicone lube which sprays on wet and dries in seconds....really made mine go in easier. Good luck

Compair the pin location on the side of the new bulb with your old one. See if they are the same.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I cheated though, noticed there were two screws holding the socket into the console. So, I removed the socket to expose the slots for the pins. I just used my fingernail the push the pins all the way down and it went in fine. Thanks.

Good suggestions for when I look my over in the next couple months.

Glad to see you got bulb installed. I have a question for you.
Bought a used console for my 65 Coronet and the latch plate that holds the lid closed is missing. Any idea of what it looks like?
A picture would be great and then maybe I can just make one.
Thanks
Jim

I will try to remember to take a picture of it tonight. I'm at work right now, so if you don't see something in a couple of days hit me up again.
