Hey guys, just purchased a very solid and straight 64 Savoy with a pro max 440 and built 727. The car is worth a total restoration and I am in the process of disassembly. My question to the group: can you provide me with links of dealers/individuals that would have 64 restoration parts like the drip rail moldings, "Plymouth" letters on the trunk edge, ect. A great find in the glove compartment: the original VIN specific owners manual! Any help or direction you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Spook.

Nice find!!Where ya been for 2 years??Welcome back and how bout some pic's!!!!!!

Welcome and please post pictures. Take lots of pictures before disassembling all areas of the car for future reference when putting it back together.

Not many new parts or repro. out there for these cars, so you have to hunt for good refurbished parts.

Good Luck.

I've been driving the hell out of my 08 Viper. Actually kind of dropped out of the classic car arena for a bit. Just needed a break I guess. Very excited about this project as I have been lusting after a savoy since high school when one kicked my rear as I was driving 69 Hurst Oldsmobile. As for pictures I am pretty computer dense...but as the project unfolds I will attempt to bring the board along. Right now the car is being disassembled to get ready to be turned upside down. Also have to decide whether to build the 440 and put a cross ram on it or burn my retirement budget and buy a hemi. Decisions, decisions. Any insight anyone may have that makes this adventure more enjoyable, please let me know. Promise not to leave for another 2 years. Thanks for the reply. Spook.

Thanks for welcome. IF I knew how to post pictures I would...but not very computer smart I fear. Will keep the board advised on how things are going. Car is very complete, but would like to find small parts that are in better condition than the originals. Thank you again for any sources you could provide. Hemi...been driving my 08 Viper and frankly needed a break (both mentally and financially) from the classics for a while. Glad to be back. Spook.

Hollar if I can help... 64 Savoy Hemi with 4sp and gear vendor OD - Gary Ball interior

Thanks John. I will keep that in mind. Decided to pull the 440/727 and put in a hemi with a 4 speed. Doing the research on the hemi....not cheap! But then you only go around once. Building a Dana 60 for the rear. Car is now mostly stripped, undercarriage blasted. Solid car with no patch panals. Now if someone could point me to a 500+ cubic inch hemi for a "decent" price I would be in happy land. John, any tips about the hemi/4sp aspect before I open my bank account? Fitment issues? Special modifications needed? Thanks in advance for any advice you or others can supply. Spook.

It doesn't cost but a few hundred dollars to build a 572 than it does a 426, so go big the first time and save in the long run.... trust me.

Before I ordered a big inch crate motor I would check and see what it would take to have a local engine builder build you one. I'll bet it would be cheaper.

Don't let anyone talk you into skimping when it comes to the rocker arms. Go with Stage V, they are the best for the money. You don't need the $3500.00 Bartons but you don't want to go with the stock rockers either because down the road if you want to go with a big roller the stock rockers will cause you problems. (the valvetrain geomerty on a Hemi sucks).

Since you have a 64 Savoy you need to have a Crossram.. if you don't it just wouldn't be right.
Since your have a 64 you can chose between the Carter/Edelbrock AFB carbs or the Holley 770's.

Do your homework, do it right the first time and you'll save your self some money. We'll help you out any way we can.

When I learn how to post photos I certainly will attempt do do so. Guess I took the easy way out. Just ordered a crate 572 from my local dealer for under 15K delivered out the door.... My car will most likely never see the strip so I am not interested in getting crazy horsepower. I think the 650/660tq with a 4 speed will keep me grinning. Played the custom built motor for my 540 Chevy in the 55. NEVER again. Maybe the crate motor is not up to the standards for custom built engines but it is also 6-7K cheaper...and will do just fine for now. I can always tear it apart down the road, do some port work, throw in a bigger bump stick ect. Am torn between a cross ram (which the local mopar guru says doesn't run worth a crap at lower RPM on the street) or an inline Holly manifold and carb set up. I like the looks of the crossram, but the inline seems more user friendly and gobs cheaper. Not sure what hp/tq loss you have between the two. So any type of input is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Spook.

Hey if you picked up a 572 for under 15,000.00 you did well. I don't see any problem with that. I wasn't sure what you wanted to do with the car. If you're streeting the car then the crate 572 is a great choice. Not sure why you couldn't run the crossram on the street. If you keep your eyes out you can pick up a used or take off mopar performance crossram for around $500.00. If you're running the Edelbrocks you shouldn't have too much problem keeping them in tune.

Post some pictures when you can.

The car will exclusively be for the street. Don't want to go down the drag race avenue again.....way to expensive. Might just run in an occasional nostalgia race but just for the giggles. Putting a 4 speed in the car because I like to shift better than play with an auto. But hey! thats just me. Thanks for the reply. Spook

Forgot, bellhousing , remember I said that, 64 / 65 are unique in the fork angle compared to later cars, been there fought the battle. we ought to talk sometime. Wayne Brewer and Jamie Passon will become your new friends. My 727 buddies might have won out if it wasn't for those guys.
