I think it is a tension clip of some sort. Hard to explain it but as it was explained to me you need to gently loosen the nut a little while prying up on the arm. My buddy pops these off in less than 2 minutes but think it is more of a feel deal. Here is a picture that shows the inside but you can barely make out the piece I am talking about. Maybe 62savoyguy2 can explain better as I think he had a wiper business.
Nate, if you look at the photo you posted you will see a U shaped clip and washer that attaches the wiper transmission to the linkage. This comes apart by removing the clip and washer (do not lose the clip and washer).
