My 48k original 1965 Coronet, 361 2bbl developed some unexplainable nagging issues over the years: 1- very hard to start after any rest even just overnight; 2- reeked of gasoline when back in the garage after a spin (new gas cap and zero leaks anywhere); 3- My dip stick always seems to read overfilled. Various professional mechanics suggested MANY solutions for instance: weak electrical components re: poor starting; install a gas tank vent line re: gas odor: non original engine with wrong dipstick re: oil level. After watching a YouTube video from Austin, host of Obsolete Automotive, it turns out that my fuel pump diaphragm was ruptured and was not only losing pressure but was dumping gas into my crankcase!

Oil change and a new fuel pump are in order.

Hard start you really have to trouble shoot it. Keep away from the new car pats they suck

When I bought my '62 Imperial three decades ago, the seller, who had been a Chrysler mechanic when the car was new, sold me a new fuel pump for $30 before I prepared to drive it 400 miles back to PA. He told me it was the first thing he replaced on any old Mopar he was planning to drive.

I've done this with every one I've had since, with two exceptions. Both cars had new OEM pumps, with just enough run time to prove they worked.

And measure the fuel pump pushrod while you are there. They wear, get short, and don't pump a full stroke. Hard to start after setting is usually fuel evaporation. A common problem nowdays with the puppy pee gas we have. There are many threads about it in the fuel forums.
