Looking for some thoughts on factory color in the trunk of 1966 B bodies.

Body color or the gm looking splatter paint .

I was always under the impression body color was 66 and up. Splatter paint was 1965 and older.
But recently learned some 66s were splatter paint.

Thoughts ??

Is or could it have been a date change over thing ???

I have one each. But both cars have been redone so I can't use them for reference.
Although I have a feeling BOTH may be correct
Jan 6th 1966 is splatter paint. Los Angeles plant
April 5th 1966 car is body color - Lynch road plant

Your Yellow one had spatter when Bill got it, he kept it the way it was. Hope this helps?

I asked the same question when I got my 66 and basically what I was told was 66 was a transition year for going to body color and probably the various assembly lines didn’t all phase over at the same time. Mine has splatter paint but since the body was media blasted I can’t be sure what was original to it.

SBD ?

I can't help much other than to say everything was red. If there was splatter it was only on the quarters. I always considered it as sound deadening.

My 66 was the better looking body colour, I can't remember the SPD though.

Well my '66 was built in '65 and the trunk inside hasn't been repainted...

My '66 Coronet 500 was an early-build Hamtramck car (SPD 901) and has gray speckled paint in the trunk.

I'll grab a picture of my trunk today after work.

This one was never repainted I don't think there is "speckling" (Car was originally silver)
I can try and get better pictures soon.

Don, I guess you mean the factory silver had never been repainted until it was painted black?

Yes the exterior was painted black but the inside of the trunk is original (including the trunk mat which is pretty cool)

Here’s the trunk floor of my unrestored 66.

Here's my '66, built at Lynch Road, with an SPD of 901. The grey speckle appears to be original to the car. I've owned the car coming up on 43 years and have never touched the trunk finish. The outside part of the right wheel house has the grey paint flaking up a bit, I just noticed.
