Took my 66' belvie on the highway today for the first time an noticed quite a bit of road noise coming from the rear of the car. Haven't spent much time with mopars and was wondering how loud our cars usually are at highway speed.

Anyone want to shed light on how much road noise is reasonable for these cars?

Just hoping it doesn't have any dif problems that need looked at.

It's a 225 slant with the 3 speed auto, restored and bone stock.

Thanks

tires...rearend...wheel bearing...insulation....

It depends on what kind of noise you're hearing. You don't want to compare a 1966 model car to a present day car as new car makers have addressed road noise whereas back in the day I don't think it was a consideration. You might try riding in a buddy's old car to get an idea. Any whining, grinding, thumping, squealing, etc. would indicate a problem.

What's been done to the car? New quarters, trunk floor, new carpet without the jute backing etc?? The factory sprayed some undercoating on the inside of the quarters and most cars had it underneath too and that helped but other than that, there wasn't much sound insulation back then.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Its not all that bad sounding of a noise, just a noticable wooosh coming from behind me, sounds like driving with snow tires on sort of. I haven't spent much time with anything restored as all my other oldies have been junky ford falcons with leaky exhaust and tons of wind noise so I'm not too familiar as to what a car of its age should .sound like normally. I checked the rear end, no leaks and plenty of fluid in the dif, bearings seem okay from my inspection. For now i'll blame it the cheap Hercules tires that have been slapped on all four wheels.

Road noise is cumulative. Meaning every little thing adds up. Door and window seal leaks are a big part. Also out of balance / alignment drive shaft, tires, rear end bearings, etc..
