Hey guys,

Alright, long story short I made the mistake of letting off the clutch while the car was still in gear, heard a bunch of horrible noises, started it back up and driving it home I noticed... I could go into first gear without an issue and it would accelerate like it always does, no weird noises, but when I would let off the gas OR push in the clutch while moving that you would hear some nasty sounds and feel it somewhat in the pedal, It was kinda like if you were missing a ball from a ball bearing. It was a rhythmic noise... Now, I got the trans out of the car and the cover off, gears look just fine and I can move the input shaft up and down just a hair... Any ideas on what I can do to figure this out? The noise only happened while I was in first gear while decelerating and when I would push in the clutch in first gear while moving. No other gears did this including reverse...

Specs on it, A745, 3 Speed, No first gear syncro and its in a 66 Coronet with a Poly 318.

Thanks

Update - Took it too the trans shop today, he took at look at it and came up with nothing... Only thing he said is that the Input shaft bearing seemed a bit sloppy, but the throwout bearing was fine... Anybody any ideas? I've kinda hit a dead end here!

Isn't that the little transmission with the top plate on it? Snatch it out and throw it in the ditch. Either put an A230 3 speed in it or an A833 4 speed. You could break them little transmissions in half with a slant six.

That bad huh? Will that A230 bolt right up to the existing bell housing?

Yes sir. It uses the same mount, drive shaft and linkage too. The A230 is easy to spot. It's right about the same size and shape as the 833 4 speed. It's big for a 3 speed. ...but if what you have is still workin, I'd still use it till it came apart. ....and if it's behind a V8, it probably will.

If you're looking for the newer stronger 3 speed I think I have it. 1970 model with side cover with long tailshaft (has a 70 VIN on it). Only thing is it's apart but the major parts look good. I also have the A body version also from a 70.
