Greetings !!

I have been offered a 1967 fastback. It's what the title says, and I was called and told I could have it for 500 bucks. Yeah, it needs work and lots of it, but it isn't a total basket case. Actually, I don't think anything's been disassembled and it's all there.

It has the original 273 motor and a 727 tranny, all glass intact, frame straight, little bit of rust and a huge dent on the passenger side. Front clip good, door metal hit hard, rear quarter has a big one below the window. Driver's side is good. All the trim and badging is there.

Is it worth it?

I've never owned one, but I imagine that it would be worth more than $500 in parts and scrap value. So, I'd buy it in a heartbeat, then decide if its restorable. If not, you could part it and make your money back.

This being the first time I have even considered restoring a car, I'm a little nervous. What's got me interested is that I once owned a 68 fastback during my Navy days ... then in 1974 I let a friend borrow it and he ran it through a row of mailboxes next to a county road in Virginia. Took out the passenger side quarter panel, the door and a bit of the rear behind the door. The damage on this one is so close it's scary. I've had dreams of having that car back someday, and getting this (practically) laid in my lap is almost the "come true" of that. Long years have gone by since then and I'm just a bit nervous.

What would make it "not restorable"?

thx for taking the time to answer,
B

Buy it! You can always sell it if it doesn't work out for that price.

The A bodies were known for rusting out around the upper control arms, some to the point were it can be expensive to repair if possible at all. I have owned several 67, 68 and 69 Cuda's and that was always the first place I checked.

from what you describe,it sounds like a good buy for the price.
