Owners manual says not to use aluminum base bulbs. I am having trouble finding brass base bulbs. What is the problem with aluminum base? Thanks!

I have found that the aluminum bulbs get hotter and burns the plastic lenses. Also aluminum is softer so can distort especially when being removed.

Which bulbs are we talking about here?

I was guessing the various interior bulbs.

Aluminium and Brass don't play well together over time with heat and moisture.

You will find it difficult to remove the lamps after a long period of time....they grow together eventually.

BTW ....bulbs grow in the garden....lamps have filaments. :poke:

Where would you suggest purchasing brass base lamps? The auto parts stores all have aluminum.

I imagine bulb grease or dielectric grease would keep them from corroding together. I hope it's not true about them getting hotter and melting lenses.

Don't confuse them with nickel plated bases. These are OE on European cars like MB and BMW. No corrosion or distortion. I think they are Philips brand.
Nickel vs. Brass: the Best Tail Light Bulbs? -
How can I tell if the Philips brand I purchased is nickel or aluminum? Both are silver in color. My magnet would not stick to it. Are all Philips brand nickel?

I have some philips p21w for my coronet. They're silver colored but the metal doesn't look like aluminum. Magnet doesn't stick to them either. I'm guessing nickel plated something.

Probably eBay - I don't live in USA so I cannot really advise of the best places.

aluminum and nickel don't look anything alike and the packageing will be clearly marked.
Package is not marked. Is this stainless or aluminum?

Have a strong magnet? Stainless will be magnetic (maybe, unless it contains nickel). The metal tends to be brass, nickel, or aluminum.
Aluminum is generally less shiny and smoother compared to stainless steel, which may have a brushed or polished finish. Nickel is shiny silver finish.

I don't know of any lamps made with stainless steel bases or caps......would likely be nickel plated copper/brass or aluminium.
