I have a 1967 satellite we are restoring - who makes sheet metal for the rear quarter panel. The metal rear of the wheel well is shot and the metal in front of the rear wheel well is marginal.. So doe Sherman parts fit, AMD, or others? Sherman is the only company I could find that has the lower rear quarter both sides of the wheel well. I am looking for the parts that fit best or maybe a different solution - help or direction is greatly appreciated Thanks

year one, hands down. DO NOT get the JC whitney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

X2 on the JC Whintey...thin.

The Sherman panels are every bit as thick as the original metal...body lines are accurate as well. Shop around to see who is distributing them...you will likely find them cheaper than direct from Sherman.

I heard Sherman is the best thing going for these cars but can't speak from experience. But I will find out at some point.

a while back on this site there is a member who sells western sheet metal and at a good price you might want to go back in the for sale post

all the ones I found have fine print saying are made off shore and some even use the same picture for there ads.All of them are the same shape and dimensions so I can,t see each company having there own steel stamping plant.

I have found (By experience) that all reproduction sheet metal for these car is garbage. The edges are not as sharp as factory and bottom corners for front and rear wheel opening is not even close. Fcatory openings are chisel sharp the repops are round. I basically spent weeks trying to hand form a sherman repop wheel opening to make it work. For the opposite side of the car im going to find a good donor maybe a 4 door and cut it out. Sherman, Year one, jc Whitney, they all suck!!!!

My brother used a patch cut from a 4 door.

The way water exits the area under the window is different, and the 4 doors are not as likely to rust around the wheel arch.
There was also enough metal under the door curve to cover the rust in that area on his 2 door.

I used the sherman panels with pretty good results. I do agree they are not as crisp as factory but compared to rust I'll take it.

Coronet quarters have a different lip design. They may be closer to original.

True but I can still speak to the body lines not being as crisp as the original metal. The lip opening was more rounded than the factory orginal panel too. However now they lack the large holes....so I'm happy with that. Also my car is not being restored to show quality or with the intention of flipping it.. so my own self satisfaction is all that counts.

I give props to anyone taking on a 66-67 B Body project. Not lot of good reproduction parts available. All I can say is you better be a top notch fabricator or have a rust free car. I love these cars but at times it can be tediously frustrating. Really wish some aftermarket company's would get on board and reproduce some better sheet metal. Just try and find a lower fender patch or anything other than a few cheesy quarter patches, it's just not available.

I bought the full patch panels off ebay for $299, shipped. They are USA made, but a little thinner than the original sheet metal. The driver side I cut to the lower body line, on the passenger side I used it all the way up. I thought it came out good.car 021.jpgcar 009.jpgmarx 008.jpgmarx 010.jpg

I personally butt-welded everything. If I had the abilty to make the pocket for the new piece to sit on top of I would have done it with a lap.

thanks for all the input - I did get a panel from Sherman - not real impressed. What do you do with the body trim rivets that are on the original quarter panel? The pins hold the body side moldings on. Would you try to fine new ones and weld them on, or use body molding tape and just stick the body side moldings back on?, Where or who has the plastic pieces that snap into the trim. Mine all broke getting the trim off. I really like the 1967 Satellite and will be a pavement pounder when done but the parts are sure tuff to find. Any help is greatly appreciated

You could use pop rivets or small screws for the clips, once you find them. The moparshop.com is offering clips for the '66 Satellite but I don't know about the '67s. Good luck in your search and the rest of the project.

POS replacement panels for 1967 Satellite

Well you are correct - I got a Sherman panel that includes the wheel well. It is a POS and not even close to fitting plus the wheel well arch is different than stock/ At the centerline of the wheel well on the stock fender is 2 1/4 inch from the bottom of the wheel well lip to the body contour line. The Sherman is 1 5/8 or so What this means is the body line on the crease will not line up across the wheel well down the car to the bumper and up to the driver door. +
So as as I see it at the moment I will need to cut out the inner fender and remake those panels to match the Sherman wheel well arch. The only good news is the inner part of the wheel well is all rotted out and needs replaced anyway. So I am not sure what I want to do - Reshape and cut out inner fender wheel well arch or look for a different option than Sherman and maybe have several patch panels and buy the AMD patch panel for the rear portion - Or find a quarter from a doner car out west if I can find it and afford it - any suggestion or direction would be appreciated

thanks

Well the saga continues. I will be working for weeks getting this Sherman panel for the rear quarter to work. Not even close to fitting. I hope there is something better to repair the lower rear quarter cause nothing fits and the body lines etc are off and not as sharp. Pretty much a waste of money. Inner fender wells need to be reworked to match the wheel well arch on the Sherman. Not even close to the original. I definitely will find a different solution for the right side.
