Just curious as to how rare the 383 4 speeds are in the 68-70 chargers. Seems every car I find for sale is a R/T or a 318. Did they make many 383 four barrel cars in general and with the 4 speeds to boot? I'm thinking that and the 69 Chargers in the same trim level and hell the 70's too for that matter seem to all be pretty rare. I have been looking for awhile now and really can't afford an R/T car that's all done up, but want a big block stick car. Been looking for a 68 mainly. Seems they are pretty rare.

Yes, 2nd generation 383 4-speed Chargers are rare animals. I put a list together years ago on their numbers. The '68 383 4-speeds production totaled "333" (out of 74,883 XP's) in number and are the rarest.

That is INSANE! Looks like I am better off looking for an R/T.....atleast they exist ha!

They are out there...you just have to be patient and a bit lucky. I actually own two of the 259 made 4-bbl 4-speed 68's. Right place at the right time AND with the right cash. It happens!

We have a 70 383 3 speed on the floor xp car with 4 barrel. Numbers say one of 109

Dans 68, you are in a prime area for those cars. Out here on the east coast, everything is gone and rotted out. If you ever come across anything driver quality or a solid project let me know! I am always looking. Anyone have any numbers on the 69's and 70's? Same thing or more plentiful? I don't think I could buy a 69 either way......split grille kills it for me!

Will do. Look at the chart I attached in thread #2 to get the 2nd Gen Charger XS and XP (and XH and XX) breakouts. 1969 had the most 4-speed Chargers produced (7,605), followed by 1970 (3,382) and then 1968 (3,287).

I think "D'em Duke boys" cut down quite a bit on the availability of 68-70 Chargers in general. How many of them do you think they cracked up to make a TV show?

Story is they used up a lot of small block automatic cars and some big block stuff.....A lot of the cars were supposedly automatics which is good in my eyes :)

buy a 318 auto car and install the BB 4 speed yourself

I already have a couple cars that are "made to be" 4 speed. Kinda want an original car for this one just to do something different than creating my own this time.
