Hi folks - need some help from the wheel gurus out there...

I'm trying to determine if these wheels are OEM to a 68 GTX, I know they are OEM Mopar wheels because of the "brushed" centers, but I'm unsure if they are from a 68.

I've attached a few pics of the stampings I found on the wheels - any thoughts??

I appreciate any help anyone can provide - :sSig_thankyou:

Chrome roads are correct for a 68. As far as were they made in 68 I couldn't tell you. I would run them, unles you are going for a 100 point car.

I have a newer set of 15x7 Mag500's with Coker Red Lines on the car now, if these aren't the original wheels I may look to sell them.

Thanks!

Since all the tires are still mounted; I'm not sure of the rim width. I would think they are 5.5" though, being they are 14s and OEM Mopar. The tires are F70-14's - very good tread, 1996 mfg date stamping. The car was in a museum from 96 - 04 so they have very little wear.

Thanks

The 15"X7" were not available in back in the day for Mopars, they WERE available for Fords as in Shelbys and if in fact they are originals they are probably valuable to that crowd.

You can take your car/wheel with tire to a tire shop that will have calipers to measure the wheel with tire on to determine the width.

Thanks 696pack - I'm trying to see if these 14" wheels are the original ones for my 68 GTX. I understand that the 15's were not available as an option...

Regards,
Dave C

Whats your SPD? The one pictured has a 1968 date. M4 is the plant, 8 is the year 7 should be the month and 13 should be the day. So looks like a July 13, 1968 wheel. If you are thinking of selling just the tires let me know.
Is that a R code red Plymouth I am seeing? Like to see some pic's, kinda fond of r-red plymouths!

Thanks, my car has a build date of Dec 09, 67 - so these would NOT be the original wheels to my car. The tires are stamped 23rd week of 1996, kind'a old... Yes my car is RR1, yours is very nice!

Something I know little about is reading the date codes on wheels. But yes, they are correct for your car. And no, Mopar never offered a 15" "Road Wheel" on anything in any year.

damn shame really

Correct for the car yes, org wheels from the car, or dated for the car, No.
The only thing I changed on my car was adding the wheels. I tried 14" all the way, didn't like it. Tried 15" all the way, didn't like it. 14x5.5" in the front and 15x7" in the rear and we've got a winner!

I agree, the "rake" looks great to us old school guys. The current setup I have is 15 x 6 chrome 500's all around. I have a set of 225/75 red line radials going on this week-end with the correct center-caps. For my sinister side I have a set of 15x8 & 15x6 steel wheels painted RR1 with the 68 dog dishes wrapped with 275/60 and 215/70 BFG radial TA's - black walls out.
