Is the grill and headlite rings in the '68 Roadrunner made out of stainless steel with an anodized coating ? I have been trying to polish mine with very little success. Thanks

I think they’re aluminum - or pot metal....... They are anodized. Don’t think they’re stainless.

Yes. Anodized aluminum. You need to remove anodizing before polish. If you have no black residue your not polishing yet.

I like re-doing those grilles. All polished and painted where they need to be, just perfect!

Thanks, everyone, good info. It just looked like stainless to me. I was trying to polish with a wheel and different compounds, got nowhere. Now I know why, I wasn't getting through the anodized stuff. I have read that oven cleaner will remove it.

5.7hemi will have them looking like new for you for a modest price. If I redo mine that’s where I’m going.

yes, aluminum as the others have stated. I sent mine to a plating shop who cleaned them and polished. they now look almost chromed. not going to repaint the painted areas. looks to good to screw with. just put on the car.
OH, $1200 to get them to look like this. most shops do not want to buff and polish as it is so dangerous to hold and polish.
good luck at getting this done at a lower cost.
pt in Tennessee

I do it at a much lower cost.
