1969 Charger rim/tire fit

I've combed through most of these threads looking for tire sizes that will fit my 1969 Charger RT/SE. I would like to have the same tire and rim setup all the way around, and run pretty level without rubbing. Any help would be appreciated, and possibly pictures/photos for reference.

Stock spring setup in rear
15" X 8" Magnum 500 Rims
4.5" Back Spacing
 
I would run a 15x7 rim all the way around if it were me on a 235/70/15 for a good look. I think personally a 15x8 with huge tires all the way around just looks goofy. I have 15x8's on the rear of my Charger, but that is for the wider rear tire look not all the way around.
 
I have 255/60R15 on 15 x 8 (4" back space Ramcharger rims) all around. Stock ride height. These fit with no rubbing, albeit tight. You must install the travel stop spacer on the lower control arm bumpers that was used on the A12 cars. These tires are the same diameter as the OEM F70x15s, so maintain the same appearance in the wheel wells. It depends on what look you are trying to achieve. This combo gives the vintage NASCAR look and I have the stock red lines for when the OEM day one look is appropriate.

My "68 rubs with the 8 inch in the front. The rim rubs on the upper control arm when I turn sharply. I am working on getting 7 inch rims for the front with 4.25 inch backspacing. Then I have to get em painted....it's a whole big thing

What is the back spacing on the 8" rim that rubs? Anything greater than 4" probably will.

The 8 inch have a 4.50 inch backspacing , I feel the quarter inch will do because like I said I really have to be turning sharply at a pretty good pace to make it rub.

You don't happen to have any pictures with the 235/70/15 tires and rims do you?
I'm trying to fill up the wheel wells, but I don't want any rubbing issues, and I want to run a pretty level look, not the jacked up rear end look.

That is a 235/60/15 on the front and 275/60/15 on the rear. Not too bad at all just a tad bit of rake and looks mean. I like a 225/70/15 on all four if I was doing a standard tire on all four. I had 215-70-15's on my roadrunner at one point which looked like the stock tire size in a 15. 225/70 adds a little meatier rubber look. Its best to just search the hell out of cars on here and then ask the owner what size he has from the ones you like because you will find 2,192 opinions on tire sizes. Some guys love huge tires all the way around like a 245/60 or something, but to me it just looks like too much tire on the front especially.

That is a good look, what sort of backspacing did you have for both rims?

duster22 I know they are 15x7's and 15x8's but you are the wheel expert. Do you have the backspacing for those rims before I try and dig through my paperwork or notes?
 
15 x 7 is 4 1/4" and 15 x 8 is 4 1/2".
That is pretty much standard on most of the
aftermarket Mopar wheels of that size..
Dont get me wrong , some companies make odd size
backspacing that is not Mopar friendly , so you need to
know what your car wants / needs. First thing I usually ask,
has your car been modified and how...

Hey frank I'm currently running stock suspension on a 69 R/T charger (4x11" drums) I'm planning on switching to a Hotchkis TVS kit and Baer 11" disk brakes. I've been looking at keystone classics by Crager in 15"x10" on the back and 15"x7's or x8's on the front (not really sure if it makes a huge difference in controllability). really don't know to much about this and wasn't trying to start a brand new thread for more of less the same question sorry hope I'm not hijacking this post. I'm gonna order the custom made set so I can pick my back spacing, really just trying to find out what should work 4.5" upfront and 5" on the back? the car is in a separate state from me right now (job related) so i try to order parts for it so i have got stuff there when i can get back home and work on it. trying to not run into any rubbing issues if possible. thanks in advance and if you guys need me to delete this and make a separate post i can. thanks.

You may want to check and see what size the Keystones are on the inside , at their smallest point , as far as clearance for the brakes. I am thinking that 4 1/4 backspace works better on the front , 15 x 8 wheel. The back is more in the area of 5.5 backspace , but you have to watch the tire bulge on the inside. 15 x 10 wheel
I know you can't measure the car , but really that is the best thing to do , because each car is slightly different , even side to side , different.

I have several different sets of 15x7 front & 15x8 rear wheels with 295/50's for my cars to mix things up abit. Kinda like women with shoes.

295/50's are just perfect on the back of a second gen Charger :thumbsup:.
