Sold new by Clark Motor Company in State College, PA. This Road Runner was the big brother to my dealer demonstrator GTX, and was also maintained at the dealership for 15 years. I tracked down the guy who bought it from the original owner's widow, but the trail ends with the Long Island, NY buyer who sold it in the mid 90s. Car still had original drive line, sheet metal, and interior at that time. R4 red with black bucket seat/console automatic interior. Assume it's currently buried in a deep pocket collection, but Rob Clark and I are still curious about its whereabouts, and he is the best living source of information on its early years.

I still find it amazing that this car has stayed off the radar for nearly 30 years. It's been an urban legend here in State College since new. I've been de-bunking rumors about the car's history for the last decade. Original owner was Julie Clark's band director in High School (my GTX was her family car when new.) Car sat for nearly two years in the show room before being sold. Insurance premiums kept potential young buyers away. First owner was in his 60s when he bought it. Car was a daily driver for 12 years, accumulating 80,000 miles, high for a Hemi. Clark Motor Co. converted it to factory air conditioning, and installed a milder cam with hydraulic lifters, similar to the de-tuning Bill Clark performed on my GTX.

It may have fled the country, and is in some Elite's private collection ?

Probably. When the car last appeared in a 1996 Hemmings ad, Rob Clark was a first class subscriber. He called immediately, but the car was already sold. Price back than was $19,000.

I have it was for sale in January 96 for $19,800 looks like the owner was Bob Calhoun from CT.

Bob was the second owner. I've talked to him several times. He sold it to a buyer who flipped it a few months later. Guy who bought the car from the flipper had an engine fire a few months later, called Bob to see if he wanted the car back. He kicked himself years later for not buying it back. Bob posted the VIN online after he hit a dead end trying to pick up the trail from that owner, and that's how we connected.
