I had 15x8 4.5 inch backspace Weld Draglites with 275/60r15 on the back and 15x6 215/70r15 on the front. Upgraded to 15x10 5.5 inch backspace rears with 295/50r15 and moved the 15x8s up front with 245/60r15. The rears look FAT. BFG Radial T/A. They clear with enough room on every side. The have about a half inch to the fender lip. I lowered the rear an inch with different spring mounts also, and with the shorter tires, you can tell it sits lower even without the motor and trans in. The 245s clear everywhere as well up front.

Sweet! please keep us posted on any rubbing issues I will be copying you if it works out well. When do you think it will be road tested? It does look tight there at the inner wheel well.

In my experiences, the sidewalls always rub on the inner fenders before the leaf springs.

I should have said something about that. That grey line is just dirt markings from the tires riding on the floor of the Fed Ex truck lol.
Ahhhhh. I see.

Like @hunt2elk says, I too find they they usually rub on the inner fender. 275/60r15’s rubbed with an 8.5 wheel on my runner (inner fender). 295’s are shorter but wider than the 275’s. I think you may find theat they too rub especially with 5.5" backspacing. Try it and see. Looks good otherwise!

That is exactly the setup I'm planning for The Bird, I had 5.5" BS 15x10 American Racing Torq Thrust D's made for the back, 15x8 on the front and exactly the same size tires you're using. I also have Firm Feel HD rear springs to install, but mine are regular height. Everything I read at the time says they'll fit but please do let us know how yours do once you're on the road.

I am still missing the housing for my rearend build, I am thinking a 65-67 B body housing being about an inch narrower might be a good choice giving me more room for wheel/tire/shim combinations. What do you guys think? Would it help?

I run 295's but on 8" wheels on 5 different sets of wheels now and swapping the rear torque thrust wheels from 255's to 295's also soon for a 6th set.

Good info, so 295 on 8" wheel does that give slightly more sidewall clearance than a 10" wheel I am thinking?

They will have to be aired way down to get a full contact patch…
