I am considering selling my 1970 Roadrunner. I don't need to sell it, but if I can get what I am looking for from it I will. This, and perhaps craigslist, is the only place I intend to advertise the car. I have several balls in the air right now and frankly its just a space issue. If I can't find an interested party I will just have to find a storage facility for the car.
So here's the skinny on the car.
This is the quintessential Spartan Roadrunner. Very low optioned car. It was restored about 9 years ago by the previous owner. It has been garaged ever since BUT this car is not a trailer queen it is driven. It usually sees about 2-3k per year. Sometimes more, sometimes less. So it has between 20-30k miles since the restore. Three years ago I had a 496 stroker (383 block NOT 440 496) built by Precision Race Engines in Tennessee that was installed in the car. This solid roller engine was dyno'ed at 555hp, 630tq and frankly feels a little stronger than those numbers when you can manage traction. It's running full MSD ignition and topped off with a Quickfuel 850 CFM carb. At the same time the engine was replaced the 727, column shift transmission was rebuilt and a 3500 RPM stall converter was installed. The car has the 3.54 rear gears and has just over 4700 miles on the new engine and trans. I have kept meaning to swap out the 3.54 for 3.91's to make it a little more suitable to the stall converter in the car but thus far haven't gotten around to it. The car has only ever seen road use, never track. But unofficially I have clocked it at 11.5 sec in the 1/4 mile on the street. I believe with better rubber she should be able to do low 11's.
The car retains a lot of its originality as you will see in the photos. The trans is numbers matching. The "original engine" in the car is an "S" code, date correct warranty 383 replacement engine. When I replaced the engine I tore down the date code correct engine and it is very clean. It was running fine when I decided I needed more power. It will accompany the sale of the car and could be reinstalled without a rebuild provided you put a complete gasket/seal kit on it. It is a complete long block with all the factory correct accessories (valve covers/intake/water pump/oil pump/fuel pump/distributer/coil/exhaust manifolds, etc... still attached.) I also have the original radiator that was replaced in favor of a larger aluminum radiator at the time the engine was replaced. As well as the factory rally wheels. All original parts will accompany the sale as well as all equipped parts.
As I said, this car is a recreational driver. So it has some signs of use. But all and all in pretty damn good shape just the same. And it is an absolute joy to drive assuming you have the stones to drive something with this much power and factory drum brakes.
Things I know it needs:
The floor pans were useable and original when the restore was done 9 years ago. There is a small rust hole in the floor pan.
The original steering wheel was cracked and garbage. I have the original wheel but given it is cracked in several areas it is probably not capable of being saved. I have a replica aftermarket wheel on it at present. At 3 feet it looks original but it isn't. Never been terribly fond of that wheel. Just haven't found a suitable replacement.
The left front lower ball joint has a tiny bit of play in it. I will replace that later this year or early next if I keep the car.
The car came with only a clock. Not a tic-toc-tach. That clock is gone, and replaced with an aftermarket tach that is installed in the clock slot.
The factory radio, while in the car, does not work.
The heater core needs replaced.
I just pulled the tarp and car cover off of it today for the first time in 7 months and she fired right up with no issues.
I want 27k for everything. PM me if interested or for more details. Comparable value trades will be considered. Although not a muscle car. Something modern that can be driven in snow. Prefer a pick-up, but open to other offers as well.
Here is a video from inside the car running.
