I, have a 1970 Road Runner with a Air Grabber Hood and a 440 cid Want to install a Edelbrock Performer RPM 440 intake. Looks too tall to fit!!!
Has anyone done this installation on this car? What problems if any did you have?

Thanks.

I have the same question but with a 70 383...not meaning to hi-jack your thread but I'm wanting to switch from a stock manifold to a modern performance in-take and like you I'm running the Air Grabber hood also...

Performer RPM Air Grabber

I have a 71 with a 440, performer RPM and air grabber. So - its not precisely what you are looking for, but I did make it work.

I used a fiberglass reproduction air grabber base - removed the middle part and fabricated in a drop-element air cleaner base in its place. 13 inch Ford Motorsports has one. Wouldn't fool anyone and that isn't my intent. But I do like to be able to restore the function of the grabber and get back to a stock-like look.

There is not much clearance between the base and the stock lid - maybe 3/4 inch where it dips. I could probably shave a little off the horn to get more clearance. Another project for another time.

I did the same for my 70 Road Runner using a 14" drop down air cleaner base that drops down about 1.5".
Fit nicely with both the Performer RPM and M1 intakes.

Thanks Northwest !!!!!!

Does your 70 Roadrunner have the
AIR GRABBER HOOD? What amount of clearence do you have?
Thanks

Hi, and thanks, placed intake, carb and air cleaner on it today. Have about a 1/4" of clearence at the wing nut. Guess that works.

Thanks again to both of you for all the HELP and Pictures.

Note that the 440 and 383 air grabber bases are different heights. The base for a 383 is taller than a 440. This is because the top of a RB 440 sits higher in the engine compartment.

So, if you have a 383 with a proper air grabber setup, you can put a slightly taller intake manifold and switch to a 440 air grabber base for some additional clearance.
