what size of upper ball joint socket do i need for my 70 roadrunner??

Call Mancini Racing 1-800-843-2821 or go to their website, they have all the proper suspension tools you will ever need, for reasonable pricing... You will probably need a Torsion bar tool also so you don't nick up your bars trying to get them out of the lower control-arm pivots, the whole kit for all the tools is MRE66489 $159.95

Proto #6550 It's the larger of the two that's used for A thru E with the A cars using the smaller one. There's no size stamped on the Proto socket that I have but if needed, I can measure it....

Good advice. I bought this kit and it works very well. You will eventually need all the tools.

be sure to soak the old one down with some good penetrating oil like Zep 45, and let it sit for a day or two before wrenching on it. Being the threads are so shallow, it's pretty easy to damage the UCA side threads by crossthreading or manhandling while trying to overly force the upper ball joint out. A little heat doesn't hurt either.

Good luck!

Clean off ALL the dirt too and then soak it. My socket measures 1.940 which would be 1 15/16ths but if you buy the socket for the B and E cars, you'll get the right one. Btw, if you don't have an impact, leave the arm on the car. You will probably have to work it back and forth to make it come out. Tough work doing it by hand. With an impact, it's a lot easier but all of the ones I've done, I still had to work it back and forth. They usually won't ever come out without doing that.
