I've been looking into building a 70 Roadrunner on a newer challenger frame. I have a little experience with fabrication. I have never done this sort of thing before though, and figured that before I start with it, I should ask people who know to avoid getting into a nightmare.
My line of thinking is that since both the 70 roadrunner and the 2008 challenger have 116 inch wheel bases, the 70 roadrunner can be modified to fit onto a 2008 challenger frame, preferably keeping the challenger motor, transmission and rear end.
If this is do-able, how much work would I be looking at to mount the roadrunner body to the challenger frame? When on the frame, would the challenger motor sit nicely in the engine bay and would the transmission be in the approximate right place, or would I need to modify the wheel wells, firewall, fenders and/or floor to fit them?
The roadrunner that I'd be hybridizing is a factory in-violet 383 air grabber 3 speed. Should I modify it, or get a not as optioned car to modify?
To reiterate, I have not done anything like this before. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.
