1971 440 block, main caps, and forged steel crank. Just had it cleaned and magnafluxed. Standard bore, no cracks. This was a manual shift transmission car, there is a pilot bushing in the crank. 100 miles straight east of the Twin Cities. $600.00

Cast in March of 71, assembled in November of 71, installed in a 72 model year C body... Probably an excellent starting point....

Was a 4-speed car as well. Would think that was not very common?

So close to what I am looking for, assembly date before sept 1971. G440

A 72 C body 4 spd.... Gotta be super rare, Not sure when the 4 spd became N/A in the C bodies has to be 73 or 74...

Looks like Furious smoked me... LOL..

No 72 4spd C's. 69-71 only had 3 in the tree.
Forgot about 3-speeds. That is probably what it was then. From the research I did, forged cranks were only put in manual transmission cars in 72, 73, 74, and 75. Can't remember where I read that though.

Not so, plenty of forged crank automatics in those years. If you were closer, I'd buy it, looks like a good deal.

Wonder what determined cast vs forged? I always thought that by 1972 the bulk of cranks going into big blocks were cast.

Used to buy retired Oregon State Police ’73 Coronets for their 440 HPs back in the mid-seventies, would pay $300 for a 100K mile well-maintained complete car. All autos, forged cranks and HD rods. Would swap in a 383 or something and sell the Coronets for $500 or so. Lots of 440 HPs in B & C body police cars in that time frame.
