I just purchased an NOS Edelbrock 440 six pack manifold (34120408) with the 3 carbs and linkage. The set up came from the estate of a very elderly eccentric fellow who was a mopar fanatic. (He was a great guy) I believe the carbs and linkage are NOS as well as they show absolutely no sign of wear, gas etc with the ink markings numbers still on the carbs. I realize they will have to be redone as they have been sitting for a very long time. The center carb is correct (part number wise). However the two outer carbs have decoded to be for a 1970 340 six pack set up (List 4790). My questions are:
1) what is the complete set up worth (estimate)
2) if I use it will the 340 outer carbs work on my 440.
3) would it be wiser to sell the setup and buy an aftermarket setup (cost wise). I have a U code 440 Magnum 71 Charger Rt
4) what are the value of the two outer carbs if I decide to sell them to purchase the correct ones. Your comments and advice are appreciated.

Hmmm, well a matched set is worth quite a bit more than a non-matched set....maybe $800-$1000 value? From what I understand there are quite a few differences between the 340 & 440 carbs. I'm sure you could get a 440 to "run" with the 340 outer carbs, but I'm not sure if it will perform like you'd want it to. I believe you can modify the outer 340 carbs to be like 440 carbs with drilling, metering plates & some other modifications ($). Also, a '71 motor would come with a cast iron intake if you're concerned about being original. As a "guess" you can probably get $200/carb for the outers if you can find someone with a T/A or AAR that needs those numbers.

I will throw this out.... I have a set of '71 440 auto carbs (not complete) that I've sort of held onto in case I want to build my own set of race carbs some day.

Heck I just found out a couple weeks ago that my bone-stock 440 is running (real good) with a 340 Carter AVS on it. Thought when I went back to stock that I had a 383-440 carb.Id say rebuild the carbs& try it.
