After removing my factory single floating piston disc rotors for refacing, I’ve noticed that my inner wheel bearing seals don’t look like the seals I’m seeing for Mopar disc brakes on YouTube.

I’ve include photos of my existing seals and photos of a “new” seal that was installed, in a video, on a 68 Charger with front discs.

The rubber part of the seal prominently extends outward on one side of the “new” seal. My existing seals have, in contrast, rubber barely extending out on one side. The existing seal metal ring part is warped on one of the seals, and the rubber isn’t protruding uniformly past the metal ring.

I feel I should replace the seals, but don’t know if I should be looking for a seal like mine or like shown in the video “new” seal photos?

These are the markings on my existing seals:
National 6840-S USA (on metal part)
1-29 1019-S (On rubber part)

They both do the job just fine. The extended one just gives less chance of dust getting in there. My Superbird had the short seal on it, OE as it had never been apart before. My Bee with drums had the extended ones. I put the extended ones on the Bird when I cleaned it up and they fit just fine there as well. So choice is yours...

Dadsbee is right - so long as the extended lip does not foul anything I feel they are a little better but as stated they both work.

There is such a big difference between the two.. Will the extended rubber end rub on the spindle base and wear the rubber down shortening it closer to the shorter seal?

Like I said, worked just fine on my '70 with zero drag, but note that the OE was the NON-extended seal. Would suspect if my '70 OE was the short seal, '71 OE was as well. My '69 drum had the extended seals and I just happened to have two extra when I was cleaning up the Bird so I put them on to see if they worked..and they did just fine. There's a big gap in behind, why there's also a metal boss that bumps out on the backing plate, to stop **** from getting in there.

My spindle photos. The short seal seems to fit fairly good. I see it looks like the inside diameter of the rubber seal rides on the spindle. I might could straighten the bit of warp of the one seal’s metal ring with my press vice. The slight warp is in the direction of the spindle.

I would probably have to end up ordering replacements online, not sure if anyone local will have any of these in stock.
