Hi there,I bought this roadrunner from salt lake city Utah August 2012 bought unseen only photos of ebay $4200 USD then another $5100 AUD to ship it back the car looked in good shape except drivers side floor pan was rusty front windscreen broken.came with 1978 440 and 727 TF originally 400.I plan to build 493 stroker 590 HP 600ftlb.I will be running a Ford AOD overdrive transmission as I have one in my 1968 mercury cougar.the AOD was originally designed for about 300 HP but with the late model 1998 4R70W Gear train and 1 piece non Lock up input shaft can be built to handle 700ftlb with constant pressure 200 psi main line pressure and full manual Valve body this has 3 forward gears and .67 overdrive is a 12volt solenoid button on shifter,so a normal 3 speed shifter can be used .I am also making a coil over front end copying an alterkation front end but not the ugly box section frame that they use .here are some pics of the resto so far will post other pictures of transmission set up later 064.jpgDSC00096.jpgDSC00144.jpgDSC00131.jpgDSC00125.jpgWP_000972.jpg086.jpg

Quarter panel replacement

Hi there, this car had bad rust around the rear wheel arches by the time I had sanded off the paint and filler it was time for new quarters,i ordered Goodmark panels from summit they were $260 each and $90 freight from Ohio to Longbeach CA then another $400 to Brisbane Australia after being lost/misplaced at the warehouse at Longbeach they finally arrived just before Christmas.I cut the old one off with a 5" angle grinder with 1mm(.040) thick blade,i see on a lot of American restoration shows they use an air die grinder with a small cut off blade that has always looked awkward and painful to me.after drill out spot welds ,I used a power hacksaw blade as chisel to brahe the rest. The outer inner guards and the inner sill were rusty but not that bad, after buffing them off with 3m clean and strip wheels and phosphoric/tannic acid they will be ready for 2k priming,I use Dupont 840R epoxy primer over here this paint still has the nasty isocynates in it which is good.after cleaning the old steel up I fitted the new panel, these panels are not full quarter panels like the AMD ones they have to be welded from the end of the trunk right through the rear quarter window ,I will be butt welding this with tig as you can get behind it to stretch it out.these panels fit remarkably well.WP_20150111_15_09_56_Pro.jpgWP_20150111_15_34_57_Pro.jpgWP_20150111_15_05_11_Pro.jpgWP_20150111_15_10_08_Pro.jpgWP_20150111_15_35_08_Pro.jpg

Nice work, coming along pretty quickly. I'm with ya on the iddy biddy cut off wheels, I use 6" cut off wheels for most of my chopping (allot quicker and easier to hold a straight line). I've always liked that year of Roadrunner (mean looking) and from the sounds of it your doing it justice. You guys sure take a pounding on shipping, not sure if I could swallow those fee's WOW. Good luck

That is one cool project oz, Hey bud WELCOME to the Mopar madness we all cant seem to get enough of! I hope you'll keep us undated, she will be sweet :)

I never seen this done, wish the best on expectations!

72 roadrunner transmission tunnel mods

WP_20151018_19_14_12_Pro.jpgWP_20151018_19_13_48_Pro.jpgI have decided to centre my transmission tunnel so the engine and driveline is central.the tunnel is 1 3/8 offset from factory, can any one explain the reason for this?Is it because of the ugly steering box?any I am building my own coil over front end copy of alterkation and control freak.so I cut the tunnel and added 2 3/8 in it.This is all butt tig welded with .049 zinc sheet. This This gives me more room for the Ford AOD transmission.I have to move the accelerator pedal over as well WP_20151018_19_12_44_Pro.jpgWP_20151018_11_04_10_Pro.jpg

Hey Ozmercury, you are doing a great job so far. It makes it easy when you have the right tools for the job. I am down at Mt Cotton with my 71 Charger. Keep up the good work and would love to come over and see the project first hand.

Cheers,

Ben
