I am going to be getting a new dash pad soon and was wondering if I can remove old pad without removing dash? I know there are 6 nuts and I know the locations.
Yes: I did it in my 71. It's been awhile, had to take the steering wheel off. Probably dropped the column down to pull the instrument cluster out but I can't remember for sure. It took time I remember that.
I have swapped pads with the dash frame in the car before twice. It IS a PITA, but knowing where the nuts are certainly helps. Be prepared to move stuff out of the way to get to the nuts (e.g. glove box). It really helps to put the front seat(s) out for working room. If your car is an AC or Stato-Vent car, I'm sure the PITA factor is x3 and probably means removing ducting, but I have never done one of those.
