I got this alert in an email from Hemmings.com. The article is here:

If you’ve ever been to one of our Musclepalooza events, you probably know Peter and Kathy Cambrola of Bristol, Rhode Island, from one of the several AMCs they’ve won awards with, including their 1970 Rebel Machine, 1971 Hornet SC/360, and 1966 Rambler station wagon. For one of their latest restorations, however, they went with a piece of Detroit steel and were rewarded with the Best of Show award at this past weekend’s Musclepalooza XVIII.

Of course, a 1973 Plymouth Road Runner GTX isn’t exactly a mainstream choice for a restoration either, but Peter said he had developed an appreciation for the body style after his mother bought a Satellite Sebring. Because only the Road Runner GTXs came with the 280hp 440-cu.in. V-8 that year, he kept an eye out for one of those, and didn’t have to look too far – his body man had one and eventually sold it to Peter a few years ago.

The GTX had been sitting for quite a few years and needed some work. “It was pretty rough – Rhode Island rough,” Peter said. But it was an actual Road Runner GTX with the torque boxes and the right VIN, so Peter stripped it down for a rotisserie restoration that wrapped up last summer. And while he and Kathy have shown the GTX only a couple times since then – including an appearance at Musclepalooza XVI last Labor Day – this is the first major award they’ve taken with it.

Look for a full feature on the GTX, along with a complete list of the award winners from Musclepalooza XVIII, in upcoming issues of Hemmings Muscle Machines.

Rare to see that year win, not the most popular of the body styles or years, especially at larger shows, get some respect... good for him & congrats... looks allot like Rons 73 RR clone
