Hi! I am new here and starting to post the pictures of my 1st hotrod project. I'm 17 now and I bought this car about 3 years ago and have it all torn down now and we have it on the rotisserie in the garage finally! The car was a 318 3 speed with the original engine and ran when I got it... I have a mildly built 340 4speed ready to go in it after the restoration is done. The car is going back to its original yellow color with the factory strips. My dad told me to go on here so I can get advice from people that have cars like mine. Wish me luck lol!

Is there an easier way to remove the undercoating?!?

Propane torch and a putty knife is how I did it, don't melt or burn it just heat it enough to soften it up and it scrapes right off. Congrats on the project and you definitely came to the right place for help, allot of great guys on here that really know these cars inside and out. They were a big help to me while building my Charger (Restomod Charger thread) so your in good hands. Looks like a good project, good luck

That works great...what do you use to clean the residule off with?

Turpentine to get the worst off, followed by Wax & grease remover (paint prep liquid) would be the safer way to start - that's how I did it. It's a real messy job, so either wear gloves or have some really good hand cleaner available.

Welcome to the FBBO site....good luck with the project :hello2:

Eastwood has undercoating remover in a spray can. I haven't tried it but it would be another option. Make sure you wear a breathing mask and safety glasses when scraping that is some nasty stuff.

Welcome to FBBO! You've come to the right place, there is a gold mine of info on here and lots of amazing people to help you with questions you may have.
Looks like a very cool project... have fun!!

I will look that up--Thanks!

hey does anyone know if a 71-74 charger roof skin will work on my 73 roadrunner, because I want to eliminate the aftermarket sunroof?

IMG_20150107_201204_851.jpgNo school today so I got some more done.... -20 something outside

Looks like a pretty cool project! Good luck! Removing undercoating is never fun. Air needle scaler works great for removing it as well.

A little hint, Coleman. Get a really nice picture of a car just like yours restored in the same color combination you want. Take the picture down to a copy store and have it enlarged. Then pin it up on your shop wall and look at it often. Think about how cool you're going to look cruising down the road in your car when all the hard work is done. A little inspiration goes a long way. And, be really nice to your Dad for giving you great information and keeping the shop warm...lol.

You could get some one with the dry ice blaster it cleans creosote and stuff out of veneer driers

At least you have a rotisserie. I have to lat on my back to get mine off my Satellite.

my dad bought me a needle scaler, maybe im not using it right? it does not work at all.
