#2 cylinder not firing!!!???

I put in a new MSD dizzy and while I was at it I put in a new set of plugs. The motor was running rough so I decided to check the plugs again. I removed all of them but #2 had never fired. I checked the cap to make sure nothing was wrong with it. I changed the wire just in case it was messed up and I also changed to a new plug . I started the car today and let it run for a few minutes. I touched to header tube and it was cool to the touch. I removed the plug and sure enough it hadn't fired so now I am lost.

I have also checked the rockers,springs,push rods. I guess my next step is to remove the head.
 
Was it running rough before the new distributor etc? Is there a terminal in the top of the cap? Compression check?
 
Not firing on # 2

Did you check and see if you are getting fire thru the plug wire to the plug? If so pull plug and run compresson check on that cyc. you could have a burnt valve, broken spring.
 
Start cross checking wires. Take one that you know works and switch it with #2 and try again. Repeat similar testing techniques until you find the culprit - hoping it's something simple.
 
I just had the same thing, and it was the lack of compression due to bad exhaust valve.
 
Easy way to see if a plug is firing - take your inductive timing light, hook it to power like normally, and clamp on the wire in question. If it lights, you are getting a spark.
 
Could too tight of valve lash make the valves not seat in turn not letting the cylinder build compression?

another way i check is pull the plug, pull coil wire, put wire back onto pulled plug and hit the key. if the spark jumps on plug then its in the head usually. if its not jumping then work back from there. .02:eusa_think:

On a cold engine, having some valve lash won't hold a valve open but once things heat up, not having enough can keep a valve from completely closing and if you run this way, you can burn an exhaust valve pretty quick. Did you do a compression check? What's the readings?
