Guys,
I apologize but i can't get a handle on this. 2006 Explorer. ABS, Traction Control and wrench popped up. I cannot drive the truck. The brakes lock by themselves. I can't go over a couple miles an hour. I can't get it to Autozone to get scanned. Has anyone ever run into this? I checked the ohms to the fronts. 10 on the right side, zero on the left. I know, I know, is a Ford, but i'm a mopar dude . Anyone have this happen?

IDK about explorers, but ford cars used to be famous for having their ABS controllers under the battery tray.

A little acid spill and ... *poof* all hell brakes loose.

Are there any ABS labeled fuses that you can pull and still have conventional braking?

When I was building Fords for use as Utility trucks, we had to bleed the brakes/abs system with an OBDII Ford specific Scanner tool, to cycle the ABS system, thru the computer OBDII diagnostic port under the steering column, in the cab... Also if you do have problems with the brakes especially on as newer Ford, it can be a computer or sensor related issue also, sometimes its a speed/abs sensor on the rear axle, in the trans or just ABS sensor, one on each wheel, but some are combined... sorry I can't help more...

Sorry I have no idea if it would be the same on an Exploder

My recommendation is search for some of the Ford Truck or Explorer forums and then search for ABS issues, etc.
You could even join one and post your questions.

My 2 cents worth.

ABS is designed so as to revert to normal braking in the event of a failure of any part of the system. This is a unique problem. I agree with Shorty on the Explorer forums. One thing I have noticed with some of my 2000 era Chryslers, the "flexible" (rubber-covered) brake hoses at the rear-wheels/axle can COLLAPSE internally. When you apply the pedal, you have over 1000 psi forcing fluid to the brake. But when released, the fluid wont flow back. Next time the brakes are locked, try opening a fitting ahead of the locked wheels. Lets say the flexible hose at the rear axle if it is both wheels. See if they release. This may not solve it if it is truly an ABS issue, but it will rule out the rear brake system.

Thanks guys. Any recommendations on a OBD scanner??

I bought one from Amazon. An Innova in the $200 range. Not the good stuff the guys who run shops here can afford, but MUCH better than the cheap-*** Actron that Autozone uses to tell you to buy an over-priced, Chinese-made, O2 sensor from them. The Innovas can actually watch the O2 sensors performance. The AZ Actrons just say "O2 sensor". That dont mean the O2 is bad, just means that it is reading something it don't like. My Innova said "Bank 1, cyl2 , misfire. Az said bad O2 sensor, bank 1. The cause was bad coil-on-plug, cyl 2.
