300 Car "Barn Find"

My wish was to have a mobile home with a huge shop. Wife said no.

I gotta know the "hows" and "whys" on this one! Where does such a collection fall into such
disregard?

Unbelievable!
I can't imagine what he has tied up in just the car lifts much less the vehicles and building(s)!11

I think every member here would say yes to another garage or three.
I'd like to have a 60k sqft garage/open span,
with an apartment/mezzanine level probably
with a bathroom/shower, kitchen & bedroom,
& lil' yard for my dog to do his business...

I almost had it I had 47k sqft warehouse,
a bi-level service elevator to the top floor
with parking on top but no ramp ever built to get there
(Port Chicago/Concord)
& an office on the 3rd floor,
a 1,000 sqft big corner office overlooking the 10th tee at Diablo Creek GC
across the street
I had a fold-out sofabed, a shower & a nice Big Screen TV
phone & office equipment etc.
with 27k sqft of 3 floors of office spaces
1/2 of which were rented out
(my 3500sqft House was way nicer, but it was a nice place to go to work)
I had a 'Food bank', a charity at the very end, I let use 1,200 Sqft...
The warehouse wasn't open span thou, had pillars every 24' & 18' ceilings
still a shitload of space, 5) 12' x 20' rollup doors 3 on one side 2 on the other
a couple smaller glass storefronts
I could pull my Kodiac & 43' Featherlite trailer, in
connected & still be able to, or drive thru IF I wanted too
I could get the car/s out & plenty of room to work between the pillars
I could store all my (14) work trucks in there
all my building materials, 220, 440, 120 power,
single & 3 phase power
2 lifts/elevators & a bunch of mostly word working machines & tools,
welders air compressors, a couple lifts 2) 4 post & a 2 post car lifts
all for commercial use 7,000 & 9,000 lb
plenty of space to expand, spread out...

Was a great place to work, I had plenty of storage area
I was spoiled...
I miss it
I don't miss the work

I leased it for nearly 20 years for a $1 a month
a sweet deal
I supplied the security & did all the upkeep on my dime
(the owners were 2 partners that also owned a few cars they
stored there... The owners of 6 of the dealerships I serviced
)
the renters paid the owner/s directly, so no hassles...

But, I'm not into hoarding, **** I can't use...
When you have room, it's amazing how much you accumulate too...
I wouldn't ever have a huge collection like in that video
maybe 10-12 cars probably 1/2 racecars & 4x4s/Trucks or Jeeps
a nice enclosed trailer, a couple of favorite muscle cars,
a few MoPars,
a select few GM, mostly Pontiac, Olds & Buick
& even a couple Fords
but even that would be stretching it

It's a PITA to keep & drive all of them insure, license
or maintain them all or it looks like those in the collection...

Yes, could you imagine the insurance? Hopefully they are insured, that would be a severely expensive fire.

I wish I had a slightly larger garage, but what I have will do. If I need more room, I will punt the RAM to slumming in the driveway.

I have friends with car "collections" but nothing near this extensive or expensive. I guess maybe it's an addiction on this level? Since, to me, a passion would likely result in better care taken of the hoard. Looks like he could afford to.

I feel whoever the owner is has made the right choice to sell since there will just be continuing deterioration going forward.

There's nothing worse than seeing rare cars deteriorate. Yes, I'm looking at you, the "I'm gonna fix her up one day" crowd. *Grabs neck* *Throttle* :screwy:

Pretty sure this is one of those cases where the eye was bigger than the stomach. Many of these cars are time-warped as investments....which is nifty. Now they can be appreciated and are safe from the crusher or just hoarder blight.

I've had a bit of a revolving-door mentality for cars (and motorcycles) in the past. Went through a lot of 'em, bought, fixed (or parted out), sold...some, I've kept (my one-owner '91 Daytona turbo; my Satellite wagon that I bought in '93; my one-of-1399 collectible Buell that I still have...even though bambi totalled it in '18). But until I got my Charger in late '20...I'd always been restless about "hey, that would be fun" or "hey, I'd like one of those". Now, though...I'm good. The Charger is my white whale; my holy grail. Mom had one she bought brand new. Cousin wrecked it in '75 or '76. Wanted one like it all my life. Now that I found it...I'm good. I can focus on IT, and I'm fine with that. It's what I've always wanted, and now I have it.

Would I love a Leno-size collection? Sure, who wouldn't? But financially...logistically...hell, I can't keep up on SIX cars ('72 Satellite; '70 Charger; '90 turbo van; '91 Daytona turbo; '01 Ram cummins; '14 Grand Cherokee), never mind six HUNDRED!! As nice as it'd be to go out in the garage, and simply climb into a new Ford GT to scoot to work...I just don't need to encumber all the other stuff that goes with ownership.

I didn't have the patience to watch it all, especially after she said Polaris.
Did they say what the story is?

They just said that the owner started collecting the cars in the 70s, and never drove a lot of them. They said all the cars are up for sale or will be up for sale in the future. The guy doing the video said there would be an email in the comments that you could use to get in contact with someone if there was a car you were interested in. But I could not find the email in the comments or video information. The cars were so tightly packed in there, that is the car you were interested in was in the back, it would take weeks to get to it with all of the cars and stuff that would need to be moved.

They had another video where they detailed the Bizzarrini P538 because it was/is one of the first ones the owner was going to sell. This car was very close to the back of the garage where there wasn't even light. So they detailed it right there in place and then covered it back up right in the same spot. By the time they move everything to get it out of there, it will probably need to be detailed again.

Agree.

.....and I have 23 of them!

Hmmm,
Like me the guy probably "Bit off more than he could chew"
It is almost as if some of us say, "I have plenty of time, I will get to them"

In your guy's opinion are there any deals to be had in a huge auction like that? I've also thought of the warehouse/apartment thing. My house has gone from $225K in 2000 to $725K now. I can buy our ranch for $1 mill. What to do what to do.
