Can anyone help me, I bought a 1974 charger that came with a 318 engine and someone put a 360 in it, it runs but when you start it up it makes a knocking noise and as soon as it gets oil pressure it stops knocking, but it does not seem to be smooth running, not like a missing problem but more like a vibration problem. So with that be said how do I check to make sure that the correct dampener and flex plate and converter are on the motor in the car . I pulled the pan and was expecting to see the bearing wiped put but they dont look that bad, I will replace them but want to makesure it has the right componets to make it run smooth, do all small block engine us the same external parts or are there different ones for different motor like the big blocks? thanks Paul 707-486-4917

You could have a couple problems or just one. A knock could be a cracked flex plate or it may have loose bolts.A 360 converter will have a counterweight,a 318 converter will not.Same with the dampener, they are different 360 vs 318,the 360 is 0ffset balanced..If the bearings are okay it may be piston or other mechanical issue, keep looking!I would check the flex plate and converter first.
