In looking at a few sites that list the casting numbers of the stock intake manifolds for mopar engines, I have found that there is no 4bbl intake listed for the 318 A or LA engine, only 2bbl. So what 4bbl intake can be installed on the 318? I have a '66 318 so it is the A engine, I'm not sure what the difference is tbetween it and the LA. Can the 340 4bbl intake be used or the 273? or something different altogether? Or am I totally out to lunch?

Some later F-body cars, Diplomat cop cars for instance, came with 318 4-bbls and spreadbore carbs. That said, if you have the A engine (called the Polysphere or just poly), none of the 273/later 318/360 manifolds will fit. Casting 1859229 is for a 57-62 A block 318 with a 4bbl, but I don't know if it will fit your 66 engine. I sometimes see A engine 4-bbl intake manifolds for sale, and some aftermarket companies made them, so they are out there. Good luck!

What size are the intake bolts? 5/16" w/1/2" head or 3/8" w/9/16" head?
If it has the 3/8 bots you should be able to use the 340 intake. If not you need a 273 only 4bbl intake. You could change the heads to 318 heads. the '302 casting is a good choice. Compression will go down some.

joesnow, are you sure that a 273 or 340 intake will fit a poly motor?????

If it is a poly, NO sorry I misread the first post. I have a '67 318 and a '65 273. FYI a LA 318,340,360 will bolt up to the trans, just use the old convert and the correct flexplate.

Um compression wont go down with #302 heads, it will go up, way up! They are 59 cc combustion chambers, the stocks heads are around 70-72 cc. I have a 69 Satellite with a 318 LA, took off the stock heads and cam, installed a 69 spec 340 cam and a set of the #302 heads, 4 barrel summit 340-360 intake, and a 4 barrel 600 CFM Edelbrock carb and this thing screams for what it is!
Here is where I got my heads, great service!

had to have them machined for 2.02/1.60 valves and had the intake port matched to a 360 intake gasket.

OK, I have done the A to LA swap on my 66 Satellite and the LA will NOT bolt up to the 727 on the A engine. The alignment guides pins are in the wrong place AND the bolt holes don't line up. At least thats how it was on mine. Besides that, I didn't think it was productive to keep the stock 727 in place when putting in a new motor, mine had a TON of miles on it.

NOW, the whole reason I swapped in a 360 was because NO ONE makes a 318 Poly head four barrel (or any other aftermarket intake for that matter) for the poly motor. The last one produced was by Weiand and they DID produce at late as the early 2000s if I am not mistaking and it is a nice, dual plane aluminum piece.

There was TWO factory performance intakes made for Poly Head motors, a single four AND a dual four. Both are cast, both are very heavy, and both are VERY VERY EXPENSIVE if you can find one, they come up on EBay every now and than and I believe the last dual four I saw was coming in close to 1200 bucks.

This is a good link on a Poly performance build, I always thought it might be cool to stroke it (crank shaft interchanges with 360 LA motor) have some work done on the heads and put a demon two barrel on the stock intake with some of TTI's new headers for the motor. Just a thought. Good luck to ya!

I personally think the Poly motor is way cool, once I get back to the mainland (stationed on Oahu now) I am gonna peruse the swap meets for one and possibly build that beast boat anchor motor up for a rat rod build!

you can usually get someone to give you a poly motor . THey are hard to sell or get any real money anyway .

Its true! No aftermarket parts for them. I kept my stocker when I pulled it for the 360.

I'm guessing that 1200 bucks for the dual quad is with the carbs. I have the dual quad manifold (casting 1822004) and was going to put that on the car but finding the carbs isn't easy. So that's why I was going to go with the 4bbl. Maybe I should just say the heck with it, rebuild the 383 I have and put that in. I kind of hate to disassemble the original drivetrain though.

I had a 318 Poly in a 1966 Charger and it was the biggest slug I ever had no power of anykind.I pulled it and replaced it with a 383..

I'd go with the 383, you can get NICE stroker kits for cheap from 440source.com. Go with the extra cubes, I am not a fan of my small block in my B body, next motor is a stroker 400, already got the bock :)

A friend of mine wants to buy the dual intake I have, what do these things go for, anyone know?

Over five hundred. Its a rare option, not a lot of them made, I think they just use two small AFB's.

I sold the dual to my friend at a discount of course, and bought a factory 4bbl intake. I've been in contact with a guy whose main focus is improving the 318 and we're going to come up with a plan for mine, the 4bbl being the first step. It'll probably take a year or so, I'm going to have to do it piecemeal due to budget constraints and I'm in the middle of doing the bodywork on my Edsel.

So I'm guessing if I found a local poly 318 intake 2x4 for $150 I need to go buy it????
