Besides balance differences, is there any drawbacks to using a forged crank from a teen? Will I have to use mallory metal to balance it for the heavier rods and pistons?

I don't think there are any drawbacks. Im pretty sure they are the same. Maybe just that the 318 crank had more material removed to balance. Because the 318 had lighter rods than a 340.

I'm pretty sure the 318-3 forged crank is actually recommended in the Chrysler bulletin. I don't recall ever seeing one so if you have one consider your self lucky. Also I'm pretty sure the 74 and up 318's had 340/360 rod forgings with pressed pins and I think those were on cast cranks. I'm thinking you will be OK unless you go with super light weight pistons.

No drawbacks. In fact some years ago the hot ticket was to use a 318 truck crank in a 340. Ron
