Less than you have now, UNLESS you mill them a nice .040, and have the intake done accordingly, if you're using race gas cut it shorter . . . .

Are you allowed any other mods to the chambers ?

i can port and polish the heads i have are for a 74 dodge 360 the 318 is an 87 block but the stock heads are smog heads i still have the 360 but it needs rebuilt rules say stock heads and intake i can bore but cant afford it right now

Those "smog heads" on the 87 318 might be better on that motor than the 360 heads.
If they're 302 castings, they're very efficient and make that motor about 9:1.
They just need bigger valves, especially exhaust.

Thumbs up there.

Can you install a bigger valve(s)? Supershafts is dead on about the milling. A lot will need to be done to the 360 head in order to just get it back to where you started.

When I bought my car the owner put 360 heads on the 318 and all that, but I swear I have no compression and get horrible mpg...

i would pop magnum heads on there they have bigger valves better ports and better smaller chambers to top it all off you get 1.6 ratio rockers. i am running a 360 right now with this set up but i have done a couple for my buddy's and they work very well. best part is they are stock mopar heads

Cutting the heads more than .040 won't make it need to use race gas. If he'd lucky, a .040 cut will just bring the compression back up to where it was in the first place.

Here's a combo that a buddy and threw together with left over parts. 72 318 stock block in a 72 Demon with 115k miles (stock engine that came in the car), early model 360 heads, .480 lift cam, MP rockers, Torker intake with 600 DP Holley, Hooker headers, MP ignition, original 904 with stock converter. Car runs a 13.50 @ 102. 60 foot is a sad 2.2 but with a stock converter, that's expected. The engine doesn't turn on until 3000 rpm but runs hard from there to 6200. Did I mention the 4.88 gears and 29" rear tires? :D Car weighs 2950 without driver. Terrible combination of parts but a 13.50 @ 102!? Never expected that lol

can you just stick the magnum, heads on with out any major machine work?

Here is a site listing the differences between LA and Magnum heads http://www.dippy.org/forum2/index.php/topic,295.0.html There are some differences between the heads. Magnum heads have a different oiling system and will also require a magnum intake. There are also some bolt differences. I believe RHS also makes a magnum style head that comes drilled to accept either magnum or LA style intakes and accessory bolt holes
