How good is a 318 Poly engine and is there any High Performance parts for it?
I think they are fine, but performance parts are somewhat limited. The short block is nearly the same as a late 318 if not identical. I used to see this guy at the swap meets and for years he would drag this old poly Weiand dual quad low rise intake with him. I still see intakes around once in a blue moon. I believe the only reason it went away is it didn't fit in the A bodies. It's pretty huge for it's displacement.
If I had the opportunity I would build one for a hot rod just for the billet Chevy crowd to say WTF is that???
it's a Dog. I would go with a LA if I were going the 318 route.
Woof Woof Baby!!!!:rolling:
In my opinion the LA 318 is the Best engine of all time, They are tough as nails, very dependable, able to take 40 shade of **** and still keep on going, .....but they are not "powerhouse" engine and poor choices for performance.
I saw a guy at the track in a 68 Barracuda fast back running 12.50's with a 318. It was built like a high performance 340, including the heads and the compression to go with and was running a .528 cam.
they were a good motor in their day for pulling and haulin and general dependability. i have one and im thinking about pulling my 383 out of my 53 truck and running it.
