The 66 Belvedere ll I got recently was missing the timing tab on the engine.Someone give me a timing tab and im not sure if its the right one.It has the 318 Poly engine in it and it doesn't have the timing marks cast into the timing cover like the LA engines. The timing tab I was given appears that when bolted up the timing mark should show up on the passenger side of the engine, yet when I put a timing light on it the mark on the balancer is coming up toward the driver side.I don't know if I have the right timing tab and it has the wrong balancer or whats going on with it.Can any of you that has one of these engines post up some pictures of the timing tab and the balancer area?? Or have any insight on this?:confused2:

timing tabs on the poly would be pass side. poly harmonic has marks on pass side. You can put a later harmonic on but will have timing marks on driver side. You can get timing tape to put on driver side of the harmonic.

Put the engine at TDC for number one cylinder, and mark the balancer with a w paint pen. This is the new mark to time the engine with the proper timing tab that you got from your friend. Ignore the mark on the driver side.

Think maybe my best bet would be to find the correct balancer to put back on it with the timing tab my friend gave me? The guy I got the car from said the motor had been through at some point not long ago and I figured someone stuck the wrong balancer on it.I have the car running pretty good like it is but I would like to know for sure what the timing was on.

This is the timing tab I was given. The two bolt holes seem to line up with the two bottom water pump bolts.

I say again, the least expensive thing is to mark the balancer with the new timing tab, and call it a day. As long as it works fine, who care where the cut mark is. I use a white paint pen to mark the balancers. I could check tomorrow, but even if Power Bond did make one, it would be expensive as they are not that popular. There is a place in CA called The Damper Doctor ((530) 246-2984) that can rebuild yours with the correct marks, or they have one on the shelf. It is the same here too, and an unpopular 318 poly might run at least $150 or more.

Remark yours and be done with it... :glasses2:
