318 timing marks

hi to all.

i have a bit of an issue with my 318! i dont seem to have any timing marks on my front cover plate??

could any one help because i need to set the timing and i dont know where to line it up to.

many thanks in advance for any help.

All I can suggest is useing a piston stop tool that threads into the spark plug hole,with degree wheel on crank.Rotate one way to stop then the other way to stop, inbetween is TDC.If you back out the stop and repeat, the distance will decrease and if marked on the balancer you could measure between and mark that as TDC, make a sturdy pointer and add a timing tape to the balancer.Not the most accurate, hopefully someone has a better idea.
