i am confused here. i bought a stock 340 4 barrel intake to replace my 2 barrel on my stock 318. in my research i am finding out that the ports in the 4 barrel intake wont match my heads. i have read you can port the heads to match the intake. is this correct? also, why is it edelbrock performer manifold says it's for the 318,340 & 360. how can it match all those ports? please don't tell me to get one as i am not made of money like most of you seem to be.hahaha i got lots of time but no money. unless there is no other way. it will take me about a month to save the money. preferably a used one as the new ones will require a 2nd on my house.

You can bolt it on. The ports are just larger. Port matching would be better but the performance increase will still be better than the 2 barrel even without matching the ports. Just use 340 intake gaskets.

thanks mark for the reply. i may have a line on an original 318 4 barrel intake but he hasn't got back to me yet. i already have the heads on the motor but if he doesn't then i'll just pull them off and grind them open. either way, buying new head gaskets and intake gaskets will probably be cheaper than a new edelbrock. thanks again.

If you are looking at grinding alot you maybe doing more damage than good.
I have bolted 360-4 intakes on 318''s with no porting and had good results.

An original 318 intake may still have the larger ports. Depending on year many HP 318s had 360 heads.

well guys, i checked the ports in the intake with the gaskets i have and they fit perfectly!!
not so much the heads. must be 340 gaskets. the guy with the manifold got back with me and it turned out to be a 273. then he decided not to sell it. go figure. i am just going to go with it like it is. thanks for the replies.
