I need different pushrods after changing cam, engine work, etc., in 340 with hydraulic cam and 273 adjustable rockers. I used pushrod length checker to measure all 16 pushrods twice for correct length.
Shortest -- 7.307 inches
Longest -- 7.363
Average --- 7.339
Do I order the shortest length, the average length or somewhere in between (plus 0.080 for preload)?
I know hydraulics with adjustable rockers are forgiving, but I want to order these just once. Thanks.

If you plan on ordering them from Smith Brothers, they will tell you everything you need to know.

Thanks Khrysler. I planned on calling them but Smith Brothers was closed for the night, and I guess I was impatient after spending 3 hours today measuring and remeasuring pushrods. :)

You're going about it the right way. They will ask you key questions to know just what you have. They seemed to know what I needed before I told them.

Know what size ball or cups you're useing and give them your numbers. Great people!

ask them about using Magnum (AMC) lifters and oil through the pushrods for the adjusters
they will tell you, or ask, how many threads they want showing rocker to adjuster (shorter the better- but not so short you can't adjust :)
and how much pre load in decimal or turns down
did you measure with a solid lifter?
does it have the same lifter face to pushroad seat dimension as your hyd lifter?
The cups vary so be sure you are on the same page as far as cup lip height if you measure over all length

If you changed the cam, the only safe way to do this is to buy an adjustable pushrod, set it, measure and order that length.

Thanks Bill. But I have cup ends. I'm not even sure they make adjustable pushrods for those. I know Smith Brothers don't have them in their catalog. Plus, with hydraulics and adjustable rockers, there's no need for every pushrod to be the exact measured length (to the .001).

gotcha, if you went with a cam with different specs though, that could completely change the length of the pushrod you need. You can get one here:

Thanks Bill. Just a misunderstanding. I've already used a pushrod length checker. The longest, shortest and average listed above are what I'm coming up with at zero lash with no preload using the pushrod checker.
