361 vs 383

I pulled my engine today and looked up the casting numbers. It came back as a 1964 361 or 383 apparently they used the same block. My uncle claims it to be a 383 but my dad remembers it being a 361. Is there an easy way to figure out which it is?

It will be stamped on the flat pad on the block just in front of the right cylinder head.

what is it out of?....1964 B Body?, was it a 2 BBL or 4 BBL???....3 speed , 4 speed or a TF...

383, 361 used same crankshaft, 361 had smaller bore.

I dont know what it was out of my father changed engines in his 62 Fury sometime in the mid 60s. As i said before the cast numbers are 2128854 and can either be 361 or 383 they used the same block for both. Today i am going to see if i can find any markings flat pad on the block just in front of the right cylinder head. Also there is an extra 3 at the end of my casting numbers if that means anything.

The sure way would be to measure the bore.

Look on the pad below the distributor. a 64 361 will have a V and 36, a 383 will have a V and 38. The V tells you it is a 64. I attempted to attach a picture of the pad on a 64 383 engine that I have but don't know if it worked.
